Equal Opportunity Commission
The South Australian Equal Opportunity Commission receives complaints from people who say they have suffered discrimination or sexual harassment under the South Australian Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
People at some time in their life may think they haven't had a fair go. Sometimes this kind of treatment is against the law.
Only certain types of discrimination are unlawful in South Australia.
Discrimination is against the law when it:
- is based on a personal characteristic, such as race, age, disability, sexuality, sex, pregnancy or marital status
- happens in an area of public life
- causes loss or humiliation and
- has happened in the last six months.
