New Equal Opportunity Act

On 27 April 2010, the new Equal Opportunity Act 2010 received Royal Assent. The new Act has a default commencement date of 1 August 2011 and, on commencement, will replace the Equal Opportunity Act 1995.  The new Act responds to recommendations in the 2008 report by former Public Advocate, Julian Gardner, An Equality Act for a Fairer Victoria, following his review of the 1995 Act.  The new Act also clarifies, updates and amends certain exceptions to unlawful discrimination. Further information about the new Act can be found on the Equal Opportunity page on the Victorian Department of Justice Website.
